Hot tub maintenance must be done on a regular basis, and should become part of your daily routine.

One of the most important things that you need to carry out on your hot tub is acidity checking. Every day, you need to take a H reading, which should come out somewhere between 7.4 and 7.6. If it is either side of this, you should add pH Plus or pH Minus to adjust the water's pH to the correct level.

Calcium should also be monitored closely to keep it within the recommended level of 100 to 200 milligrams per liter. Calcium can pose a real threat to your hot tub and its equipment; below 100 milligrams can damage the filter and pump, while above 200 milligrams can make the water cloudy and begin to leave calcium deposits on the sides of the pipes and shell.

Chlorine or bromine should also be used to keep your hot tub at its best, as they will help to keep the water clean and prevent bacteria from growing, and will kill any that are already there. Both serve exactly the same purpose, although bromine is easy to put into the system and has almost no odor.

When you are in the hot tub, all sorts of oils will come your body, such as sweat, sun block and makeup, so to prevent this from causing problems, you should oxidize the water in the hot tub once a week with a chlorine free shock. Tis hot tub maintenance task will remove oils in order to maintain a crystal clear hot tub.

The final key part of good hot tub maintenance is draining and refilling your hot tub. This will need to be done much less regularly than the other hot tub maintenance tasks, and a good way to work out how frequently to do it is to find out how much water your tub contains, divide it by the number of people that use the tub and then multiply the resulting figure by 12. So if your hot tub held 700 gallons of water, and two people use it, 2 times 12 is 24, so you divide 700 by 24. The result is 29, which means that you should refill the hot tub every 29 days.

To get the most out of your hot tub, you should follow these simple hot tub maintenance guidelines, as they will keep your hot tub in tip top shape.
